Frontline Foreman Accelerated Skills Training (Frontline FAST) provides participating apprentices a collaborative online and in-person developmental environment where leadership concepts are introduced, analyzed, and applied to our current business environment. Participants learn to apply the concepts of:
- Modeling the way
- Inspiring a shared vision
- Encouraging the heart
- Enabling others to act
- Challenging the process
The environment is safe for participants to express their unique perspectives and experiment as they exercise the concepts on-the-job. Through the sharing of ideas and getting feedback participants learn how their behavior is interpreted by and affects others. Past and present Frontline FAST cohort members, coaches, and company leaders interact with participants and collectively mature the leadership skills of all involved. In face to face meetings, individual expression and open dialog is encouraged and current practical skills and best practices are introduced and practiced. To transition concepts to practical application, participants complete a series of coordinated exercises such as games simulating day-to-day shipbuilding activity. Coaching provides an opportunity to develop and practice individual expression of leadership concepts and business management skills. In a capstone presentation, participants express their individuality as well as their ability to function as a team.
