Trade Description
Insulation ensures efficient operation of equipment, minimizes energy loss, reduces or eliminates noise transmission and prevents injury. Insulator apprentices learn to fabricate, manufacture and install various kinds of insulating materials. Apprentices cut and form insulation materials, make molded plastic forms, laminate fiberglass cloth and mix bonding materials such as cement, epoxies, and resins. They also learn to apply these skills through a variety of work experiences encompassing product lines, such as submarines, aircraft carriers and commercial ship construction and repair.
